a mate used to have rieger 5 series in white, at the time it was mind blowing whys that car got no headlights ? I don't know why the lack of headlights, It could be the new cool craze in Tehran.... but I can tell you about the car itself. Its called Samand and is an Iranian designed and produced car. It is the new "national car" and was the replacement for the Hillman Hunter whose production line was stopped couple of years ago... u can google it for more info

Is this a 405 with saxo back lights I guess there must be a surplus since "lexus lights" became popular, good to see them being recycled this way. I want this Wolseley

What a great selection... there really is something for everyone there. Classic brits, bruiser yanks, tin snails, modded 70's kit, eveything. I had no idea that there was any kind of 'scene' in Iran... Thanks for sharing! Oh and this: Must be the best Hillman Hunter EVAR!!!! (yes, I know, not tecnically a Hunter) Pretty much cock-on.

Wa-hey! It's a modified Pars Khodro!
Thanks for posting these pics, there's nothing I like more than a glimpse into another nation's 'scene'. Brilliant!

Amazing stuff! I have it in my head that those Iranian 'Renner 5' jobs are fitted with kia Pride transverse engines or something?
Fantastic pics anyway, a real treat to see. I wonder how that Wolseley got there! Be fantastic to know the stories behind some of these old cars.

Fantasic. Is that a Jyane next to the 2CV? Iranian built Dyane - I understand Jyane translates as Lion?
Great to see cars from a country the press (and George Bush) would have us believe is troubled. Just goes to show that a love of older cars is something so many of us share!
The Pug 405 I'm guessing is a modernised design produced over in the East somewhere. Just goes to show how good Pininfarina's original design was that a simple rear lamp change makes it look so fresh.

Ace cars. Great to see Iran in a positive light too. You often see news footage of old cars, and I always pine for better shots. I love those Renner 5's.

Fantastic! Like others have said, I never knew there was any kind of retro scene in Iran (well, I'd never even thought about it really...) Those Renault 5-based cars are cool. I could have Googled for 50 years and never found these pics. Thanks for sharing!

Hi guys
glad you liked the pics. truth is in Iran there are men, and men have testicles. and men with testicles love cars.. ;D
now some more info
That white 405, is actually not a 405. It is a facelift model based on the 405, which was first called Pug "Persia" and then "pars". It has a 2ltr engine which I believe is the one in Mk2 xantia. It is a bit wider and also has different front end.
The R5s. You have two kinds in Iran. The standard model which was made until a few years ago, and then the PK. The PK is basically a pride kia chassis and engine, and the R5 shell. Its was supposed to be the poor man's car but it turned out not to be that popular. The wheel arches are there because the pride chassis are wider than the R5 shell, and in true Iranian spirit, they just spat on some plastic arches with glue and silicone. Although I hear that in the facelift PK R5, the shell has been widened.
I think the facelift PK is still being made, but I am not for how long because there was talk of it being discontinued after the they started to produce the Logan... so we'll see...
