I am in need of a bit of guidance regards a one off job.
I am needing to cut some 25sq & 20sq SHS Steel with a 2mm wall at home with no specialist equipment and am hoping for a bit of guidance from some of you who may have done this before. I have always been very spoilt with this sort of thing before and been able to use equipment in our workshop, however due to the scale of this, it will not be possible.
I need to make around 200 cuts, all at various angles. Option 1 - Get the hack saw our and end up looking like a body builder at the end of it, however obtain a pretty accurate outcome at the end of it. Option 2 - Get a load of slitting discs and whip the grinder out, Accuracy may be compromised but it should save a good bit of time. Option 3 - Change the disc in my chop saw for a metal suitable one and do it on that.
With Option 3 I am struggling to find the right cutting disc for my saw that is the correct chuck size and not about £60. Has anyone successfully used a chop saw with a metal specific blade for cutting box section with positive results?
Any Guidance on the matter will be fantastic.
Thought I would update this nearly a year later, just in case it comes up under a search.
I ended up Saving "Band Saw" under saved searches on eBay, I got a notification for a listing that was ideal, but about 200 miles from home, turns out that it was on the way back from a weekend away we had planned so was able to swing through and grab it on my way home. It seemed the majority of saws were either huge industrial units or very small vertical wood based things.
Anyway this is what i ended up with.
The blades used to be availible from Screwfix, but they don't seem to stock them anymore unfortunatley, however i bought all the stock they had early this year and the first blade is still going strong after a whole chassis has been cut on it along with various lengths of Stainless steel tubes.
So well recommended if you're looking for a band saw, i was put of by the branding initially but it has been well up to the task.
Thanks for all of the guidance that sent me in the right direction.
